The Housing Program's focus is to provide housing search information, training, and referral to people with disabilities who need accessible and affordable housing. The current housing market has made it increasingly difficult for people with disabilities to secure appropriate housing. How to get started with the housing team To begin, a person must attend a Monday orientation, held every Monday at 1:30pm., except holidays.
At this orientation, you will learn about what our housing team does and doesn’t do. You will be given lots of resources to help you. If you are already a consumer of CRI, this orientation isn’t required, just call a member of the housing team for answers to your questions or to schedule an appointment. We also have monthly Housing Workshop, a required step in order to get an appointment with our housing team, where you will learn the following: 1. Advocacy: Your voice counts 2. Roomates and shared housing 3. "Selling yourself" to landlords 4. What about credit history problems or prior evictions? 5. Subsidized housing 6. Possible resources for rental move-in cost help 7. Tips for keeping your rental and stretching your dollars 8. Setting up individual appointments (optional) We also maintain a housing binder with current listings in Sonoma County. No appointment is needed to browse through this binder. Our housing team has access to possible resources for rental deposits, late rent and other critical family needs. These sources include the HCA and Season of Sharing funds. CRI's housing team is actively involved in advocacy efforts on behalf of individuals and directed at systems change. Our activities include attending public meetings and participating in the Continuum of Care, Task Force on the Homeless and other groups working towards the development of more afforable, accessible housing. Our housing team works closely with the Sonoma County Housing Authority and the City of Santa Rosa.
